How to compare crypto cards

  1. Start with the net yearly cost

One headline fee tells you little. The net yearly cost adds the annual fee and the FX and conversion fees on your own spending, then subtracts the rewards you actually earn. Compare that figure.

  2. Check FX and conversion fees

An FX fee applies when you spend in a currency other than the card's. A conversion spread applies when the card sells crypto to pay a bill. A card can be free to hold and still cost you here.

  3. Look at custody

A custodial card keeps your crypto with the issuer. A self-custody card spends from a wallet you control. Hybrid cards mix the two. Custody decides who can freeze your funds and what happens if the issuer closes.

  4. Check availability in your country

A card can be open in one country and closed in the next, and some only ship a virtual card where you live. Choose your country first, then compare only the cards you can get.

  5. Read the rewards conditions

The top reward rate often needs staking a token, a paid plan or a minimum balance. The base rate is what you get without those. Check the monthly or yearly cap as well.

  6. Mind limits and verification dates

Spending, ATM and top-up limits differ a lot between cards. Look at when each fact was last checked, because issuers change fees and countries from time to time.

Common questions

What is the cheapest crypto card?
It depends on how you spend. The cheapest card for you is the one with the lowest net yearly cost for your monthly spending and your country: fees minus rewards. Compare that figure, not a single fee.
Do crypto cards charge more than their headline fee?
They can. Besides the annual fee, look at the FX fee on spending in another currency and at the conversion spread when the card sells crypto for you. Add them up for your own spending.
What is the difference between custodial and self-custody cards?
With a custodial card the issuer holds your crypto. With a self-custody card the card spends from a wallet you control. Hybrid cards combine both. Read each card's terms to see who can freeze funds.
Can I get any crypto card in my country?
No. Many cards are open in only some countries, and some only offer a virtual card in certain places. Check availability for your country before you compare fees.
How current is the data?
Each fact shows when it was last checked against the issuer's official pages. Facts nobody has reviewed yet say so, and a missing fact reads Not verified, never zero.
